Virginia Senate Leader Consumed by Blackface Controversy

A state senator is the latest Virginia politician to be consumed by the wave of scandal rocking that state. Virginia Senate Majority Leader Tommy Norment, a Republican, was editor of the Virginia Military Institute’s 1968 yearbook, which featured Confederate flags, people in blackface, and racial slurs. In a statement released Thursday, Norment said he wasn’t in any of the controversial photos and can’t take responsibility for every piece of content. The state’s Democrat governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general are all embroiled in scandals of their own.
