Judge Blocks Beefed-Up Trump Asylum Policies

A federal judge on Wednesday blocked a slate of President Trump’s new, stricter immigration policies. Trump had moved to make it harder for immigrants to jump the line by claiming asylum in the U.S. and easier to deport people whose asylum claims were found to be bogus. That’s a no-go according to Judge Emmett Sullivan — the same judge who issued a strange, half-witted rant against Michael Flynn just a few days ago. Sullivan also ordered those already deported by the new policy to be un-deported. He reasoned that an immigrant should be able to claim asylum by claiming membership in certain social groups that collectively are facing gang, drug, or political violence back home. So like people from Chicago.

Judge Delays Flynn Sentencing

A federal judge has delayed the sentencing of former National Security Adviser to President Trump, Michael Flynn. Judge Emmett Sullivan unloaded on Flynn at a Tuesday sentencing hearing, saying Flynn arguably sold his country out by his activities on behalf of foreign countries like Turkey. The judge walked back several accusations during the bizarre proceedings, including noting that some of his comments shouldn’t be taken too seriously and admitting Flynn’s crimes were not treasonous. Nonetheless, the judge reprimanded Flynn for patterns of being less than loyal to the U.S. and his role as National Security Adviser.

—QUOTABLE: “All along, you were an unregistered agent of a foreign country while serving as the National Security Adviser to the President of the United States. That undermines everything this flag over here stands for. Arguably you sold your country out.” -Judge Sullivan

MEANWHILE—Robert Mueller on Monday released a memo detailing Michael Flynn’s interview with the FBI in which he repeatedly lied about his contact with then-Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. The memo came after Flynn’s supporters claimed that the former national security adviser was railroaded by the FBI because the agency didn’t tell him it was illegal to lie to the FBI.

Fox Legal Expert Expects Trump Junior to Face Indictment

Andrew Napolitano said Wednesday he expects President Trump’s son to be indicted by Robert Mueller. In an interview on SiriusXM, the senior judicial analyst for Fox News told host Dan Abrams that he expects the “substantial assistance” Mueller got from former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn likely means Donald Trump Jr. will be facing an indictment for comments he made to the FBI and Congress about a June 2016 meeting he took part in at Trump Tower involving several Russians. Trump Jr. has been telling friends he expects to be indicted, too, Napolitano said.

Mueller Spares Flynn from Prison Time

Robert Mueller is sparing the whip when it comes to Michael Flynn. The special counsel is recommending no prison time for Flynn, the former national security adviser to President Trump. Mueller cited Flynn’s “substantial assistance” with his investigation into alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia in the 2016 elections. Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI last year about his conversations with a former Russian ambassador, but agreed to fully cooperate with the Mueller probe.

Obama Jabs Trump Over Indictments

Failed former president Barack Obama took a shot at President Trump at a campaign stop in Milwaukee on Friday. Jabbing Trump for supposedly not doing enough to take on corruption, Obama claimed no one in his administration was ever indicted. That’s not quite true—Obama’s former CIA director David Petraeus was convicted in 2015 of mishandling classified information. In reality, only former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn has been convicted and allegations against three others aren’t related to conduct in the administration, and in fact aren’t even directly related to the investigation into Russian collusion in the 2016 election.

—QUOTABLE: “They have gone to Washington and just plundered away. In Washington, they have racked up enough indictments to field a football team…Nobody in my administration got indicted.” -Obama

McCabe Investigated As Leaker

The FBI investigated Andrew McCabe last spring for allegedly leaking info about Michael Flynn to the media. McCabe, the disgraced former FBI deputy director, allegedly leaked sensitive internal documents regarding former Trump National Security Adviser Flynn to the media, and shortly after that Flynn was fired. McCabe was known to have had a direct role in the FBI’s investigation of Flynn and reportedly ordered a team led by another disgraced former FBI flack, Peter Strzok, to interrogate Flynn. McCabe was fired when it was determined he basically lied about other leaks to the Wall Street Journal.
