Matt Wanted to be Jack

In an interview on The Hollywood Reporter’s “Award Chatter” podcast, Matthew McConaughey shared that he wanted to be the one to “draw Rose Dewitt Bukater (played by Kate Winslet) like one of his French girls.” The 49-year-old revealed that he had auditioned for the role of Jack Dawson in “Titanic,” but was beat out by Leonardo DiCaprio. Despite being turned down for that role, Matthew has starred in other popular films such as, “Wedding Planner,” “Magic Mike”, “Interstellar” and “True Detective.”

Matthew McConaughey tells the Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter Podcast he auditioned for the lead role in Titanic, and really wanted the part to further launch is career. He said he even auditioned with Kate Winslet and it went very well, but was devastated when it went to Leonardo DiCaprio. Still, he doesn’t regret his rom-com leading-man career, as well as a bunch of more serious roles. Obviously everything worked out for both the actors.
