WORTH NOTING — Emily Blunt clearly didn’t expect a win, and made husband John Krasinski, who wrote and directed “A Quiet Place,” choke up during her acceptance speech.

ALSO WORTH NOTING — Host Megan Mullaly says she bought her own dress for the hosting gig, since the big time designers didn’t want to dress her. She says it’s because she’s too old at 60.

2019 Oscar Nominations

The Oscar nominees have been announced and the list has—as it does every year—taken some by surprise. While films like “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Green Book” received nods, “The Favourite” and “Roma” lead the pack with 10 nominations apiece. Rami Malek and Marina De Tavira are celebrating their first Oscar nods, while actress Amy Adams is up for her 6th Academy Award.

Some of Hollywood’s elite were noticeably snubbed this year. Those include Bradley Cooper (“A Star Is Born”), Timothee Chalamet (“The Beautiful Boy”), Nicole Kidman (“Boy Erased”) and Emily Blunt (“Mary Poppins”).

Surprise nominations came in for the Netflix movie “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs” with three nods (Best Costume Design, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Song).

Blunt Talk

Actress Emily Blunt tells The Hollywood Reporter she broke her “rule” this year for her husband John Krasinski. Usually she insists on taking 5 months off between movie projects, but when John was working on “A Quiet Place” and she read the script, she couldn’t resist the opportunity to co-star alongside him, who also directed. The horror flick did phenomenally well at the box office, and cemented the pair as the 2018 “it couple” in Hollywood.

SAG Noms 2018

The Screen Actors Guild nominations for 2018 are out.

Lady Gaga, Sam Eliot, and Bradley Cooper all grabbed acting nominations for “A Star is Born,” which also earned a nomination for Ensemble — their equivalent of Best Picture. “Black Panter,” “Blackkklansmen,” “Crazy Rich Asians,” and “Bohemian Rhapsody” also picked up Ensemble cast nods.

Christian Bale got a nomination for playing Dick Cheney in “Vice” — he’s an awards-season favorite.

Emily Blunt is up twice — as a lead in “Mary Poppins” and as a supporting actress in “A Quiet Place.”

On the TV side, her husband John Krasinski picked up a nomination for playing Jack Ryan in the Amazon series of the same name.

Better Call Saul, The Americans, This is Us, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Ozark picked up best Drama nods.

Atlanta, Barry, Glow, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and The Kominsky Method picked up best Comedy nods.

Megan Mulally will host the show on Sunday, January 27. Alan Alda will get the lifetime achievement honor.
