In a documentary about Prince Charles, his sons opened up about their dad’s passion for cleaning up the planet. Prince William and Prince Harry shared a funny story about how they got teased at school for “picking up rubbish,” something instilled in them by their royal father. Harry said, “I didn’t go out consciously looking for it, but when you go for walks anywhere and you see something and it stands out, you pick it up.” William added that Charles would take the young boys “litter picking” and how they grew up thinking it was “perfectly normal, everyone must do it.”
Meghan Markle, who is applying for British citizenship, is still technically a U.S. citizen, so many are wondering if she voted by absentee ballot. Apparently, the answer is, “It’s complicated.” According to Kensington Palace’s official website, the Queen is “strictly neutral with respect to political matters” and therefore is “unable to vote or stand for election.” By default, the rest of the royal family typically doesn’t vote in order to maintain the neutral stance. The Palace had no comment when asked if the Duchess would be voting.
Prince Philip is keeping limber at 97. He was spotted driving a horse-drawn carriage around Windsor Castle, surrounded by two aides. He retired from public duties last year and appears to be doing just fine in retirement.
Prince Charles was snubbed by his son, Prince William and daughter-in-law, Duchess Kate. The heir to the throne reportedly invited the couple to join him on a summer holiday to the Castle of Mey in Scotland, but they declined. While Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan were up for the trip, it is unclear why the other royals said no. According to a story by the Daily Beast–written earlier this summer–a royal source claimed that William just doesn’t “get on” with his father and they “are very different people.” While Kensington Palace denied the legitimacy of the story, maybe there is some truth to it.
Queen Elizabeth will invite Meghan Markle’s mother Doria to join the Royal family at their Sandringham estate over Christmas. It’s an offer that has never gone to Kate Middleton’s family, but insiders say it’s the Queen’s way of acknowledging Meg doesn’t have family in the country. The Middletons have celebrated with the Royals, but never while staying in an official royal residence.
Prince Charles may be the most pampered person ever. In a documentary “Serving the Royals: Inside the Firm,” the future King of England has everything done for him…EVERYTHING. According to Princess Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell who was interviewed for the documentary, the pampered prince has his pajamas pressed every morning, his shoe laces pressed flat with an iron, and one inch of toothpaste is the exact amount that must be squeezed on his toothbrush. The 69-year-old probably even has someone assigned to wipe his Royal Derriere.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are officially done with their royal tour, yet what Meghan wore on her final outing is just hitting social media. The Duchess stepped out to greet some fans wearing a Givenchy sweater and gorgeous skirt…which was completely see-through. It is not clear if seeing the Duchess’ body suit was intentional but either way fans are loving the look.
Meghan Markle is being scolded for a lack of royal etiquette. The Duchess has a habit of putting her hands in her pockets, which is apparently “too casual” and “a step too far” according to a royal etiquette expert. However, body language expert Judi James told OK! that the common gesture “signals a subliminal desire to hide, especially when the hands are shoved deep into the pockets.” Judi added that Prince Charles, Prince Harry and even Prince George have been photographed hiding their hands, but Meghan is notable because she is the first royal woman to do it regularly.
The Queen and Meghan Markle appear to be getting along just fine, despite some procedural snagus. Meg had been told the Queen would be wearing a green hat, the implication being she should wear something similar. But not yet fully on-board with royal protocols, Meg showed up to an event with the Queen sans-hat, and Harry wasn’t there to bail her out. But it appears the mishap had no impact on Meghan’s relationship with her grandmother-in-law. The two shared laughs and whispers during the event.
In a biography about Prince Charles, being written by royal correspondent Robert Jobson, the royal revealed that he had second thoughts about his marriage to Lady Diana. Princess Diana shared, in her own explosive interviews, that she had wanted to back out of the marriage, as the duo had only met 12 times before getting engaged. Charles is now saying the feeling was mutual, but he felt that calling off the nuptials “would have been cataclysmic.” Robert wrote in the biography that Charles “wept tears of frustration” as he told friends that he did not want to marry Diana. Not ending the engagement is something he “deeply regrets to this day.” The couple ended up divorcing in 1996 and Princess Diana died a year later.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have continued their royal tour to the island of Tongatapu in Tonga. A red carpet was rolled out for the royals upon arrival and they were even escorted by Tonga’s princess Angelika Latufuipeka, but all anyone commented on was the fact that the tag on Meghan’s dress was showing. The pregnant Duchess, who looks flawless every time she steps out in public, deserves a pass on this wardrobe faux pas.
The Markle family feud continues. Samantha Markle—who recently apologized to her half-sister and Prince Harry—is now calling Meghan a liar, for what she said in her speech at the University of the South Pacific in Fiji. Meghan addressed the crowd about the excitement of attending a university as well as the “challenges of being able to afford” that level of schooling. The Duchess said that through scholarships, financial aid and work-study, she was able to attend university. Samantha says this is not true; that their father Thomas Markle paid for all of Meghan’s university expenses. The spiteful sister tweeted that everyone needs to “stop the enabling” and “do not ever reward a lie.”
Kate Middleton paid tribute to Princess Diana at a state dinner on Tuesday night. The Duchess wore one of Diana’s tiaras—the Lover’s Knot—at the event she attended with Prince William. Kate, who has worn this tiara to other royal functions, added pearl earrings that also belonged to the late Princess Di. People reports that the Lover’s Knot tiara is over 100-years-old and belongs to Queen Elizabeth, but originally was made for Queen Mary in 1914. Diana was gifted the tiara when she married Prince Charles and returned the crown to the Queen when the two separated.
Meghan Markle’s trip to the market in Fiji was cut short. The Duchess, who was scheduled to visit the Suva Municipal Market to discuss a United Nations project dedicated to female empowerment, was ushered out after only six minutes due to a security risk. Although Meghan was surrounded by security guards, Kensington Palace announced that “the large crowds were the main cause of her early departure from the market.” Meghan and Prince Harry arrived in Fiji after spending a week in Australia for their first joint royal tour.
A royal visit to the U.S. has been put on hold because of the royal bun in the oven. Meghan Markle, who is due sometime next Spring, is pushing back the U.S. tour until next Fall. Meghan and Prince Harry want some time to adjust to being parents before embarking on trip across the ocean, according to royal sources. The good news is that as of now, they plan to travel with their new bundle; he or she would be about 6 months old by then.
Prince Harry was bombarded by speedos while down under. According to Australia’s ABC News report, an athlete asked the Prince to sign his “budgie smugglers” aka speedo, which Harry politely declined. Later in the day, another speedo was presented to the royal as a gift. Upon receiving the present, Harry said “Oh, look at those! Only in Australia would you ever find something like this. It’s so wrong, but it’s wonderful.” The Prince decided to try on his new clothing item and put it on right over his pants. A video of the entire event was taken by the ABC News affiliate.
Meghan Markle is taking it easy. The Duchess, who is on her first royal tour with Prince Harry, has “cut back her schedule slightly” to get some rest. She was noticeably absent from the Invictus Games’ cycling and sailing competitions on Sunday, but will rejoin her Prince for the rest of the week-and-a-half tour. They will be traveling to Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand. Kensington Palace said the pregnant royal will pace herself the rest of the trip.
TMZ speculates about a member of the British Royal family becoming President. Since Meghan is an American, her child with Prince Harry is eligible for citizenship once she completes some paperwork — being born abroad, the child’s citizenship won’t be an immediate given. She’s working toward British citizenship herself right now. Meg and Harry have until the kid’s 18th birthday to sign the citizenship documents, meaning he or she could simultaneously be 7th in line for the Throne (as it stands) and eligible to be President of the United States.
Prince Harry is ecstatic to be a dad! He gushed about his newest (future) addition while speaking onstage at the opening ceremony of the 2018 Invictus Games at the Sydney Opera House. Duchess Meghan beamed at her hubby from the front row, while cradling her tiny baby bump. The royal baby news was announced hours after the newlyweds landed at their first stop—Australia—on their first joint royal tour. Harry, who served in the British Army for 10 years, founded the Invictus Games—an international Paralympic-style sports competition for wounded and ill military personnel and vets—in 2014.
Samantha Markle just won’t stop talking. After saying that her father should have been included in the royal baby announcement and needs to be included in said baby’s life or else, she is apologizing…again. The Duchess’ half-sister wants to apologize to Meghan and Harry for “past tension”. She told DailyMailTV that “everybody really just needs to come together and realize this is really important and special for Meg, for Harry, for the child, for all of us.” Again, this is probably not the end of the Samantha Saga.
Her Royal Highness is “delighted for” the next chapter that her grandson and Meghan Markle are about to begin, as parents. The Queen was reportedly told the exciting news—with the rest of the royal family—at Princess Eugenie’s wedding last weekend. The other members of the royal family share in the sentiment. Meghan’s mom, Doria, is also “very happy” about becoming a grandma.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle broke royal protocol to snap a pic with Meghan’s Mini-Me. The couple, who is in Sydney, Australia on their first royal tour, was greeted by crowds of fans outside the Sydney Opera House. One young fan, in a “Girls Can Do Anything” t-shirt caught Prince Harry’s eye and he called the Duchess over to meet her. Meghan told the fan that she loved her shirt and Harry asked to take photo of them together; a royal no-no. Another fan noted the similarity in their looks and mentioned to Meghan how the little girl looks just like she did when she was younger, Meghan replied, “I was literally just about to say the same thing!” Typically taking photos and signing autographs is frowned upon for the royals, but some rules are meant to be broken.
Samantha Markle has commented on the royal baby news. The royal family stalker told The Sun that she wants “Meghan to be happy and calm and have peace.” Nice right? Samantha followed up her feel-good sentiment with quite the jab at the wording of the baby announcement, saying: “I would hope that—for the sake of the baby, the family, the world and my dad—that leaving him out of the statement was not intentional. It is in the best interests of the baby for my dad to be included.” Um…what? This is just a hunch, but she probably shouldn’t expect a baby shower invite.
