Meghan Markle is taking it easy. The Duchess, who is on her first royal tour with Prince Harry, has “cut back her schedule slightly” to get some rest. She was noticeably absent from the Invictus Games’ cycling and sailing competitions on Sunday, but will rejoin her Prince for the rest of the week-and-a-half tour. They will be traveling to Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand. Kensington Palace said the pregnant royal will pace herself the rest of the trip.
Her Royal Highness is “delighted for” the next chapter that her grandson and Meghan Markle are about to begin, as parents. The Queen was reportedly told the exciting news—with the rest of the royal family—at Princess Eugenie’s wedding last weekend. The other members of the royal family share in the sentiment. Meghan’s mom, Doria, is also “very happy” about becoming a grandma.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle broke royal protocol to snap a pic with Meghan’s Mini-Me. The couple, who is in Sydney, Australia on their first royal tour, was greeted by crowds of fans outside the Sydney Opera House. One young fan, in a “Girls Can Do Anything” t-shirt caught Prince Harry’s eye and he called the Duchess over to meet her. Meghan told the fan that she loved her shirt and Harry asked to take photo of them together; a royal no-no. Another fan noted the similarity in their looks and mentioned to Meghan how the little girl looks just like she did when she was younger, Meghan replied, “I was literally just about to say the same thing!” Typically taking photos and signing autographs is frowned upon for the royals, but some rules are meant to be broken.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s child may or may not receive a royal title. Harry’s great-great-grandfather, King George V, “limited titles within the royal family in 1917” but the Queen can make exceptions to allow kids to receive His/Her Royal Highness titles.
MEANWHILE—Royal admirers are already making baby name predictions. Diana is clearly a favorite and front-runner, should it be a baby girl. If it is a boy, Alexander is leading the pack. Other names in the running include, Mary, Philip, Charles, Arthur, Edward and Elizabeth. However, Meghan isn’t one to stick to the strict tradition so maybe they will choose a more modern name.
The rumors are true! A royal baby is on the way for Prince Harry, 34, and 37-year-old Meghan Markle. The newlyweds are expecting their little bundle in the spring of 2019. Kensington Palace released a statement about the news: “Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made it to Australia, the first spot listed on their royal tour. The couple will also visit Fiji, the Kingdom of Tonga and New Zealand from now through the end of the month. According to Kensington Palace, the trip will focus on “youth leadership, and projects being undertaken by young people to address the social, economic, and environmental challenges of the region.” The Invictus Games will also be a “major focus.” Prince Harry founded the Invictus Games in 2014 and they will be held this year on October 20-28. It is a special event for the newlyweds, as it was at the Toronto games last year when they made their first public appearance as a couple.
Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank are married! The royal couple exchanged “I Dos” at St. George’s Chapel on Friday; the same place Prince Harry married Meghan Markle, only 5 months ago. The 28-year-old was walked down the aisle by her father, Prince Andrew. The 32-year-old met the Princess eight years ago through mutual friends.
Twitter-verse is convinced Meghan Markle is pregnant…because of a coat. The Duchess showed up to Princess Eugenie’s wedding in a navy-blue Givenchy coat, which she buttoned at the top, “creating a tent-like silhouette that hid her stomach.” Meghan never removed the coat, causing even more of a stir among royal Twitter followers. Speculation about when/if there will be a royal baby has been rampant since Meghan and Prince Harry exchanged “I Do’s”—which is to be expected when the duo can’t seem to keep their hands off one another.
Meghan Markle’s ex-husband Trevor Engelson is married. Engelson, who was married to Markle from 2011 to 2013, exchanged vows with heiress Tracey Kurland this past weekend. According to The Daily Mail, the ceremony was held in Hidden Hills, California and was kept a “small, casual but intimate affair.” Kurland is a nutritionalist and an heiress to her mortgage lender father’s $200 million.
Meghan Markle’s family is continuing to capitalize on her royal status. Markle’s nephew, Tyler Dooley, will appear as part of the cast of MTV’s newest reality show, The Royal World. The premise of the show is to follow a group of royals and aristocrats who come together for a summer in the English countryside, to live like monarchs and the super elite. Dooley, who is the son of Meghan’s half-brother Thomas Markle Jr, had been one of the few paternal family members not to cash in on the royal connection…until now. He is the only cast member from America. The Royal World is set to premiere on November 7th on MTV.
Samantha Markle quite possibly lives in some sort of alternate universe. She is back home in Florida after touring London, but is far from done talking about her half-sister, Meghan Markle. After publicly being turned away at the gates of Kensington Palace, Samantha is claiming that was not the case. In an interview with DailyMailTV, she said she is not the type to get “turned away”, that she was only there to hand deliver a letter to the Duchess. During the interview, she also had a message for her royal half-sister.
–QUOTABLE: “Let’s just cut through all the crap. You’re a woman. Life is short. I believe you have it in your heart to do the right thing here. You know dad loves you. You know he has been there for you more than anyone. So, don’t [believe] this public monster and misperception that he’s a sperm donor dad trying to be involved all of a sudden.”
Jack Brooksbanks will not receive a royal title when he marries Princess Eugenie. Royal historian, Marlene Eilers Koenig told Hello! Magazine that “Jack will not be getting any title from the Queen.” The reason Meghan Markle obtained the title of Duchess is because of Prince Harry’s higher status in the line of succession and Meghan carries out official duties on behalf of the royal family; this will not be the case for Jack. There was once a rumor that Prince Andrew, Eugenie’s dad, threw a royal fit about his future sons-in-law needing royal titles because if they didn’t, any future grandchildren would be…gasp…commoners, but it has since been denied by Prince Andrew himself.
Meghan Markle’s half-sister was denied access to Kensington Palace. Samantha Markle, who has been making her way around the London talk show circuit, was not able to get in direct contact with Meghan. Security turned her away at the gate, but not before she slipped them a letter to allegedly pass along to the Duchess. Satisfied with her half-hearted attempt, Samantha continued on her sightseeing adventure. The Mirror reported that paparazzi caught the whole exchange, so although she recently apologized, the visit may have just been another publicity stunt. No one can blame Meghan for the cold shoulder. She is probably not ready to forgive and forget being called “the duchASS” nor having her husband compared to a rodent.
Meghan Markle’s dog is a feminist icon. While meeting with the Survivors’ Network, a group that supports survivors of sexual abuse, Meghan and Harry were gifted a unique piece of art. Director of the group, Jay Breslaw, gave the royals an illustration of Meghan’s rescued beagle, Guy. In the drawing the dog’s owner, who is not depicted, asks “Who’s a good boy?” to which Guy responds, “A boy who makes every effort to dismantle the patriarchy (whilst keeping in mind intersections with other forms of oppression)”. Now obviously, Guy, being a dog, he cannot make up his mind on where he stands on cultural issues, but the picture was “lovely” regardless.
As Meghan Markle gets ready for her debut trip with Prince Harry, her team of Royal aids is also getting ready. According to Myka Meier of Beaumont Etiquette, an expert on all things royal, the Duchess will have a team to “assist her in every way to prepare for her formal engagements”. Meier added that Markle will be “briefed ahead of each event” on how to greet and address the people she will be meeting. The team will also assist her on what to wear and what to say to show respect for the country they are visiting.
Mindy Kaling is hoping Meghan Markle will be her new best friend. The Mindy Project alum recently told E! that she is moving to London and “looking for some friends to help throw her daughter’s first birthday party”; Katherine Kaling, will turn one in December. The actress joked that maybe Duchess Meghan would be her new friend and “throw the first birthday party”.
Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry are keeping in touch with common folk. The royal pair were spotted leaving a train in Leicester earlier this week. Video of the royal couple holding hands and swarmed by security was posted to Twitter. This is on the heels of Meghan horrifying onlookers by closing her own car door after arriving to an event earlier this week. Royals … they’re just like us!
Stormy Daniel’s attention hound lawyer rolled out a third accusation against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh on Wednesday. The lawyer, Michael Avenatti, had teased the accusation in days prior—and turns out, it’s even flimsier than the previous two. Accuser Julie Swetnick submitted a sworn statement to the Senate Judiciary Committee claiming Kavanaugh and a friend were at a party where she says gang rapes happened back when they were in high school. They didn’t do anything to her, but they were there and were complicit by putting booze in punch bowls, she claims. Kavanaugh immediately issued a forceful denial.
—QUOTABLE: “This is ridiculous and from the Twilight Zone. I don’t know who this is and this never happened.” -Kavanaugh statement
President Trump was in prime form at a solo press conference Wednesday, fielding questions from reporters primarily focused on the Brett Kavanaugh scandals and his own purported misadventures. While at the United Nations, Trump also publicly alleged that the Chinese government has plans to meddle in the midterm elections — details of which he was quiet on during the press conference.
Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein will meet with President Trump on Thursday to mull over his fate. The embattled bureaucrat, who was caught on tape joking about wearing a wire while talking to the president, was rumored to be on the chopping block just days ago. Now, many observers of The Swamp think he’ll hold onto his job for politics’ sake. Rosenstein first went to the White House on Monday, when many thought he’d leave an unemployed man, but the day of reckoning will have to wait. It’s generally accepted that the deputy AG—a focus of Trump’s ire for his role in the Russia investigation—will eventually be replaced, but perhaps only after the midterm elections, conventional wisdom goes.
Sen. Chuck Grassley, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said Tuesday the committee had hired a female outside counsel to ask Brett Kavanaugh and his accuser questions at a Thursday hearing. The Supreme Court nominee and accuser Christine Blasey Ford are both scheduled to testify on her allegations that Kavanaugh tried to rape her at a high school house party. Still in the air, however, is whether the allegations of a second accuser will be the subject of any questions at Thursday’s much-hyped hearing. The identity of the lawyer isn’t being revealed, which really upsets Chuck Schumer—but Grassley insists the whole move is to remove politics from the cross examination.
—QUOTABLE: “We have done it because we want to depoliticize the whole process like the Democrats politicized the Anita Hill thing…The whole purpose is to create an environment where it is what Dr. Ford has asked for — it be professional and not be a circus. That’s what we’re up to.” -Grassley
Republican Sen. Ted Cruz was chased out of a D.C. restaurant Monday night by a group of left-wing agitators. A recording of the incident, perpetrated by the self-proclaimed “anti fascist” group, shows a large group of protesters flooding the restaurant while Cruz and his wife Heidi dined. The mob, a branch of the “Antifa” group calling itself “Smash Racism DC” was shouting “we believe survivors,” referring to accusations leveled against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. The mob quickly forced Cruz and his wife to leave the restaurant.
President Trump on Tuesday said the Democrats’ character assassination campaign against Brett Kavanaugh is a “con game…they’re winking. They know it’s a con game,” Trump said. It’s the most Trump has said so far about the allegations of sexual improprieties against Kavanaugh, his nominee for Supreme Court, who has been accused by two women of inappropriate sexual advances in high school and college. “The second accuser has nothing,” the president added—referring to the fact that there is no evidence to support Patricia Ramirez’s claim that Kavanaugh exposed himself to her while they were students at Yale. For his own part, Kavanaugh has said he will not back down in the face of the brutal smear campaign. “I have faith in the fairness of the American people,” he said. We’ll see about that.
The lawyer for porn star Stormy Daniels claims to be representing a third Kavanaugh accuser. Michael Avenatti, a prominent foe of President Trump and attorney for the former adult film star who claims to have had an affair with the president years ago, says the new allegation will be coming out of the woodwork in the next 48 hours. Avenatti, also known at “the creepy porn lawyer,” told reporters on Monday the supposed new accuser is a former employee of the U.S. State Department and the U.S. Mint and has information of a sexual nature about both Kavanaugh and longtime friend, Mark Judge. She will be “100 percent credible,” Avenatti said.
