Michelle Obama Rejects Incivility Talk

Former first lady Michelle Obama is repudiating the pot stirring rhetoric by Hillary Clinton and Eric Holder. On “The Today Show,” Mrs. Obama answered questions about Hillary’s comments that civility can only return when Republicans are drummed out of power, and Holder’s comments about kicking the political opposition. Michelle, who famously said “when they go low, we go high,” said “fear is not a proper motivator.” She reiterated her husband’s failed campaign promise of bringing hope to politics. We don’t want our kids to grow up and be vengeful, Mrs. Obama said.

—QUOTABLE: “Absolutely. Fear is not a proper motivator…Hope wins out, and if you think about how you want your kids to be raised, how you want them to think about life and their opportunities, do you want them afraid of their neighbors? Do you want them angry? Do you want them vengeful?” -Michelle Obama

Trump Warns Holder

President Trump is kicking back. After former attorney general Eric Holder said at a campaign rally that “when they go low, we kick them,” the president said Holder’s off the cuff remark is a “disgusting statement.” “He better be careful what he’s wishing for,” Trump said of the top aide to failed former president Barack Obama. Holder is a rumored 2020 Dem presidential condender, and the president sent some shots across the bow. “Holder was held in contempt of Congress. Holder went after Christians,” he said. It looks like the midterms aren’t even over, and the next election is already on.

—QUOTABLE: ”He better be careful what he’s wishing for, that I can tell you. That’s a disgusting statement for him to make. For him to make a statement like that is a very dangerous statement…They better be careful with the rhetoric because it’s very dangerous what Holder said. Holder was held in contempt of Congress. Holder went after Christians. He went after our great evangelicals. He went after our tea party people, you know that, the IRS just settled that case.” -Trump

Holder Joins Hillary In Rejecting Calls For Civility

Hot on the heels of twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s promise that there will be no civility until Republicans are out of power, former attorney general Eric Holder is doubling down. “When they go low, we kick them,” Holder told a crowd at a campaign event for Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams. The comment is an uglier riff on former first lady Michelle Obama’s comment, “when they go low, we go high.” Which turned out to not be true at all.

—QUOTABLE: “Michelle [Obama] always says, ‘When they go low, we go high.’ No. No. When they go low, we kick them…That’s what this new Democratic Party is about. We’re proud as hell to be Democrats, we’re going to fight for the ideals of the Democratic party . . . we’re in this to win.” -Holder
